Ah, Homecoming. That time of year in the life of a teenager when everything is covered in glitter and trips to thrift stores happen every afternoon in preparation of the next dress up day. Homecoming. When each class spends an insane amount of money and time to decorate a trailer for a 30 minute parade ride, only to be torn down immediately afterwards. Homecoming. When boys and girls are begging every relative, friend, and car dealership for a convertible to ride in for a 30 minute parade through town.
Ah, Homecoming. That time of year when students aren't really focused on school work or learning new Spanish verb conjugations (yes, I'm speaking from experience). Homecoming. When teenagers and 10 year girls seem to forget they have any responsibilities at school or at home (again, speaking from experience). Homecoming. When the kids are already crazy and then nature decides to throw in a Blood Moon lunar eclipse.
Ah, Homecoming. When the town shows its spirit for the football team by stopping traffic on a busy highway and having a parade. Homecoming. When everyone gets a little more dressed up for the football game. Homecoming. When even the folks who don't have children in the school system will come support the local football team at the ball game. Homecoming. When classes of old plan their reunions, tailgate, and watch the game together, reminiscing about the glory days when they played, or cheered, or performed at half time.
Ah, Homecoming.
